Terror plot to kill British PM Theresa May foiled: What we know up to Now
Safety officials in Britain allegedly attempted an Islamist terror plot to kill Prime Minister Theresa May by two alleged terrorists who had been detained last week. Andrew Parker, Director of the British security service MI5, advised UK Cabinet ministers that suspects had intended to establish improvised explosive devices at Downing Street first and then kill May in the chaos which followed, reported Sky News.
The guys, who were charged with terrorism offenses, could seem at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. They have been identified as Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, of north London, also Mohammed Aqib Imran, 21, of south-west Birmingham. The Metropolitan authorities said on Tuesday both were charged "with the intent of committing acts of terrorism" and they with "engaging in behavior in preparation for giving effect to that goal".
The information of Theresa May's alleged assassination comes against a history of claims from safety officers which Britain is facing an increased terrorist threat, together with Parker asserting in a recent speech that it's the worst he's known in his 34-year profession. Presently, the official terror threat level in Britain is at acute which means that an attack is probable. On Tuesday, May's spokesperson said Britain had foiled nine terror strikes in the previous 12 months.
Britain was recently struck by a string of strikes in Westminster, Manchester and London that resulted in the departure of 36 individuals. Based on these reviews, David Anderson QC -- an Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation in the united kingdom between 2011 and 2017 -- stated the Manchester Arena bomber was a "topic of interest" and chances to prevent him were missed. The reviews also revealed both other attackers that were on MI5's radar were Khuram Butt, the chief of the London Bridge and Borough Market assault, also Khalid Masood who targeted Westminster Bridge at March.
