Most Adolescents Deal with Poor online experiences: Study

Are you concerned about the effects of your kid encountering online dangers, for example sensual soliciting, cyber-bullying and explicit substance? Take heart as scientists have discovered that for many teens, the unwanted effects of such vulnerability vanish in under a week.

Dealing could be occurring through other internet interactions with buddies or via support from social networking communities, '' McHugh said.

The study, scheduled to be shown in the 2018 summit on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing at New York, included 68 teens. The researchers ran a on-line journal study of those participants.

While they discovered that teens reported more negative feelings throughout the weeks that they had cyber-bullying and explicit content, these consequences were gone just a week afterwards.

"We totally acknowledge that there are instances where teenagers experience acute online dangers, for example cyber-bullying, which result in long-term negative results, such as committing suicide," said research co-author Pamela Wisniewski, Assistant Professor in University of Central Florida.

"These are dreadful, but they're also extreme instances. The great thing is that in our analysis, we discovered that these extreme situations are not the normal adolescent experience," Wisniewski said.

The investigators noted that teens don't frequently communicate about all of the dangers they experience online because parents have a tendency to overreact.
