Regarding the Limits of Pencapresan, Tjahjo: The government is not stupid

Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo said the government is not stupid in relation to the proposed threshold of presidential threshold in the Election Law (Election Law). The government has reviewed all aspects when proposing a 20 percent threshold of seats in the House or 25 percent of the national legitimate votes. 

Tjahjo said the government in deciding must have coordinated with the House. The Government examines all aspects. Government rules, according to him no one violates the law. 

'The government is not stupid, the government is reviewing all aspects,' he said in Keong Mas yard, TMII, East Jakarta, Saturday (7/29). Tjahjo invites parties who do not agree with the rules of the presidential nomination limits to file a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court (MK). Therefore, only the Constitutional Court is entitled to decide whether or not a constitutional law. 

'The right to decide a law, a rule violating the Constitution or not is the Constitutional Court, not a political party, not a House of Representatives, not an observer,' he said.  In line with President Joko Widodo, Tjahjo also questioned a number of new parties questioning the threshold of pencapresan now. According to him, the use of presidential threshold with the amount of 20-25 percent has been used in two previous elections (election). 

Moreover, he added, the determination of the threshold of 20-25 percent has been endorsed by the House as an institution authorized in the legislation process. 'It has been two periods of two presidential elections followed, baseball there is a protest, why now it is discussed, why? Whereas in the House has been decided,' he said. 

Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto had criticized the government about the implementation of this threshold rule. However, Tjahjo is reluctant to comment on Prabowo Subianto's remarks. 'I have no comment,' he said.
