Baswedan's novel about the Corruption Eradication Commission Bill: Corruptor with a Service to Jokowi

Senior investigator Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan questioned the attitude of President Joko Widodo who actually allegedly paved the way to ratify the KPK Bill by issuing a presidential letter.

Even though Novel considered, some of the proposed amendments to the KPK Draft had problems and had the potential to weaken interfaith institutions.

A number of things were also conveyed by a number of groups, namely academics and anti-corruption activists, including the issue of tapping restrictions, changes in employment status to the state civil apparatus (ASN) and the authority for the Termination of Investigation Warrant (SP3).

"I cannot accuse Mr. Jokowi of having an interest, but if we remember, during his time in office, this kind of effort was repeated by the DPR, not the first time. So I'm sure Mr. Jokowi knew. After Mr. Jokowi knew and still wanted change, what's the problem, I don't understand, "Novel said when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com via telephone on Saturday (9/14).

"And of course if Mr. Jokowi finishes this [the KPK Bill], then the corruptor will owe him one," he continued.

Jokowi's steps, according to Novel, are confusing. He also reminded a number of Jkowi's claims regarding corruption eradication commitments and support for the KPK.

When juxtaposed, the decision to approve the current revision of the KPK Law contradicts Jokowi's vision and mission. The novel itself stated that Jokowi had promised to lead the eradication of corruption seriously.

Novel is worried that if the Corruption Eradication Commission Bill is really passed then its existence will be disastrous for eradicating corruption.

"Assuming the President does not know [the KPK Bill problem], we are prejudiced. And it turns out that it is really wrong, can it not be restored as before? I say, it cannot," he said.

President Jokowi had previously agreed with the discourse on the formation of a Supervisory Board for the KPK. According to him, every institution really needs supervision.

In addition, he also agreed to the existence of the authority to issue an Investigation Termination Order (SP3) in the KPK.

The consideration is to provide legal certainty and guarantee Human Rights (HAM). "SP3, this also requires law enforcement to guarantee the principles of human rights protection and for legal certainty," he said, at a conference at the State Palace related to the revision of the KPK Law, last Friday.

On the other hand, Jokowi stated that he did not agree if the KPK had to obtain an outside party's permission when it wanted to conduct wiretapping. In addition, he also did not agree that investigators and investigators only came from the police and prosecutors. Others, Jokowi also did not agree that the KPK must coordinate with the Prosecutor's Office on the matter of prosecution.
